WI Egg Production Up

Wisconsin egg production during December was 209 million eggs, up 42 percent from the previous December 2022, according to the latest USDA report.

Highly Pathogenic Avian Influenza brought production numbers down in 2022. As you can see in the graph below, this year’s egg production is above 2021 numbers.

The National Agricultural Statistics Service chickens and eggs report says U.S. egg production totaled 9.45 billion during December 2023, up 3 percent from last year.

In Wisconsin, the average number of all layers on hand during December was 7.81 million. That’s up 36 percent from last year. Eggs per 100 layers for December was 2,681, up 5 percent from December 2022.

Total layers in the U.S. on Jan. 1 totaled 379 million, up 1 percent from last year. Rate of lay per day averaged 79.3 eggs per 100 layers, up 2 percent from January 1, 2023.
