Sen. Smith Commends Farm Support Program

On Dec. 20, Gov. Tony Evers announced the grant recipients of the 2021 Wisconsin Farm Support Program. More than 20,000 Wisconsin farmers received a total of $50 million in direct aid payments during the latest round of the grant program.

Sen. Jeff Smith, D-Brunswick, says counties within the 31st Senate District alone, 3,048 farmers got a grant totaling more than $7.5 million. He thanks the guv for directing the aid to farmers while they respond to unprecedented challenges and remain an ag powerhouse.

“In times of adversity, farmers still provide for our communities, he says. “The Farm Support Program is just one way we, as a state, can give back to those who work tirelessly for others.”

The latest round of the Farm Support Program was the third round. According to DATCP, the first round of the Farm Support Program — June 2020 — totaled $41.6 million in direct payments to 12,000 farmers. The second round to distribute the remaining $8.4 million closed Aug. 24, 2020.
