Dairy Signal gets set for another week

Professional Dairy Producers® (PDPW), announces the line-up of speakers for week 49 of The Dairy Signal™. Episodes this week will provide producers with tips to identify cybersecurity risks and prepare for conversations with lenders, as well as a review of on-farm research and resources.

Dr. Kevin Bernhardt, Professor of Agribusiness at UW-Platteville School of Agriculture and Farm Management Specialist with UW-Extension and Center for Dairy Profitability, and Gary Sipiorski, independent business and financial consultant, will return to The Dairy Signal to introduce “The Dairy Dozen” set of financial ratios.

Discovery Farms Wisconsin performs research on privately-owned farms across the state.  Amber Radatz, Co-Director of Discovery Farms, will introduce research programs and resources available to dairy farmers.

Jeremy Cherny, Founder and President, Tobin Solutions, will provide insights on developing a cybersecurity plan for businesses.

Developed by fellow dairy farmers from the PDPW Board of Directors, The Dairy Signal is a weekly series of free educational episodes offering insights and resources for fellow dairy farmers and other food system professionals throughout the value chain. The episodes air live from 12:00-1:00 PM CT each Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday; recorded sessions are available later in the day.

The Dairy Signal episodes for the weeks of March 1 and March 8 are sponsored by Encore Consultants.

Liz Griffith, Market Development, Human Resource Consultant, Encore Consultants, returned to The Dairy Signal on March 2 to share best practices for family members working together in all levels of a farming operation or business, including setting vision, core values and expectations for each member’s role.

On March 3, Jon Meiman, MD, Chief Medical Officer and State Epidemiologist for Occupational and Environmental Health, Wisconsin Department of Health Services, and Lisa Olson, Assistant Deputy Secretary, Wisconsin Department of Health Services, provided details on how currently available COVID-19 vaccines work, resources and expected timeline for vaccine rollouts across the state, including when producers and agricultural workers will be eligible.

Mitch Breunig, dairy producer and chair of the Dairy Innovation Hub advisory council, and Dr. Heather White, PhD, Assistant Professor of Nutritional Physiology of UW-Madison, provided a look inside research happening at Wisconsin universities through the Dairy Innovation Hub, and the potential impact on farmers, consumers and communities, on March 4.

Each live session offers attendees the opportunity to engage in open Q&A with the speakers through the newly-updated interactive platform.
