For many 4-H members and families, the organization and the opportunities it offers are focused on hands-on learning, networking with people, and leadership – plus making great memories. Well it looks like a lot of those traits are exactly what today’s job marketplace is looking for! 4-H is the nation’s largest youth development and empowerment organization. In Wisconsin, more than 26,000 youth are members of 4-H. Wisconsin 4-H also has over 5,600 volunteers who serve as mentors for 4-H youth.
Jill Jorgensen, WI Youth Development 4-H Animal Science and Agriculture Outreach Specialist in Green Bay is part of a team that’s asking businesses to take a simple survey (less than 10 minutes) and tell them how 4-H skills play into their potential hiring process. “We’d like anyone over 18, that understands what’s needed in your workforce, to fill it out,” Jorgensen says. Ideally they’re looking for at least 300 completed survey’s within the state to allow for some state-based analysis. Wisconsin is part of a larger group of states in the Midwest cooperating with the University of Missouri-Columbia, where the information will be collected. Jorgensen says the results will be made public once it’s complete.
Jorgensen says participants can access the survey through this link. The QR code below will also take you to the survey. Respondents are welcome to skip to the end if they’ve submitted appropriate information for their business.
