Extension, DNR Host Annual CAFO Workshops

UW–Madison Division of Extension and the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources are jointly
hosting a series of seven in-person workshops for CAFO permit holders, key employees, livestock
producers, their employees and agronomic and engineering consultants around Wisconsin in late
January / early February.

Designed for producers and their key employees with (or considering) WPDES CAFO permits, their
consultants, and agency staff, the workshops will focus on several themes:

  • Developing a High Quality Nutrient Management Plan
  • On-Site Treatment Systems – Overview and Permit Considerations
  • Mortality Management
  • Emergency Response Planning

In addition to DNR staff addressing these and other topics, each location will feature 1-2
farmer/agronomist/manure applicator panel discussions and local topics of interest—from groundwater
quantity in North Central Wisconsin to the Impacts of copper sulfate footbaths on manure, soil and
forage copper concentrations to Success stories of defusing CAFO/neighbor conflicts.

Registration is $46 in advance and $56 after each event’s pre-registration deadline. Each event runs 10-
3:30 (except Manitowoc, which is 7 am- Noon). Registration for all locations can be completed online:

  • Tuesday, Feb. 6 – Tundra Lodge, Green Bay
  • Wednesday, Feb. 7 – UW-Oshkosh Fond du Lac Campus, Fond du Lac
  • Thursday, Feb. 8 – Farm Discovery Center, Manitowoc (7 am)
  • Monday, Feb. 12 – County Highway Training Room, Jefferson
  • Tuesday, Feb. 13 – Lafayette County Multipurpose Building, Darlington
