Big Jump In Acreage

Many Wisconsin farmers decided to get the jump start on 2021 with winter wheat acres from 2020. Fall weather conditions also favored getting a few more acres planted, as acreage numbers reflect.

Winter wheat production in Wisconsin is forecast at 15.4 million bushels, 79% above last year’s 8.63 million bushels according to the latest USDA, National Agricultural Statistics Service – Crop Production report. Based on conditions as of May 1, the State’s winter wheat yield is forecast at 70.0 bushels per acre, 1.0 bushel above last year. Wisconsin winter wheat growers intend to harvest 220,000 acres for grain, up 76% from 2020.
