“Opening New Doors for Dairy” may be the perfect theme as more than 51,000 people are expected to walk through the doors at World Dairy Expo this week in Madison, Wisconsin. If you’re planning to attend, you’ll see visitors ranging from dairy farmers to exhibitors, students, families, and non-farmers, too.
The Mid-West Farm Report team, led by Pam Jahnke, will also be on-site throughout the expo, September 29 through October 2. You can count on Pam, Kiley, Larry, and Teri to roam the Alliant Energy Center grounds to find the best stories, and share highlights from the cattle shows, educational programs, along with the latest in products and technology for the dairy industry.
What to expect at the expo
If you are a farmer, the expo offers a chance to see what’s new in nutrition, milk marketing, ag financing, herd health, genetics, sustainability, and farm technology. Hundreds of exhibitors will fill the trade show, giving everyone an opportunity to explore equipment, talk with industry experts, and see new innovations firsthand.
And count on the cattle to be a major attraction.
You can watch some of the industry’s top dairy animals compete in Holstein, Jersey, Brown Swiss, Ayrshire, Guernsey, Milking Shorthorn and Red & White breed shows. The schedule also includes youth competitions, breed sales and the Parade of Champions on the final day.
Educational sessions throughout the expo will cover topics ranging from forage management and dairy business issues to research and global dairy trends. Several educational programs have been relocated this year to make it easier for visitors to access from the Exhibition Hall.
Students and families can also experience the next generation of dairy leadership through youth judging and showmanship competitions. The 2026 FFA Dairy Cattle Judging Contest has also received endorsement from the National FFA Organization.
