Wisconsin’s Veggie Totals Are In

Wisconsin farmers harvested 58,200 acres of snap beans in 2021 for a total production of 6.69 million cwt, according to the USDA’s National Agricultural Statistics Service.

In the latest vegetables summary, fresh market production totaled 267,700 cwt and was valued at $17.3 million. Processing production accounted for 320,929 tons and had a total value of $35.0 million.

Wisconsin ranked first in production of snap beans with 44 percent of the nation’s production. U.S. snap bean production totaled 15.1 million cwt.

There were 53,200 acres of sweet corn harvested in Wisconsin with a total production of 9.58 million cwt. Fresh market production accounted for 459,600 cwt with a total value of $16.5 million. Production of sweet corn for processing totaled 449,114 tons and was valued at $36.5 million. Wisconsin ranked third for sweet corn production with 17 percent of the nation’s production. U.S. sweet corn production totaled 57.7 million cwt.

Green pea production in Wisconsin in 2021 totaled 1.20 million cwt from 26,300 harvested acres and was valued at $18.2 million. Fresh market production totaled 1,200 cwt for a total value of $234,000. The 59,775 tons of processing green pea production had a value of $17.9 million. Green pea production in the U.S. totaled 4.54 million cwt.

Wisconsin farmers produced 1.48 million cwt of carrots in 2021 from 2,900 harvested acres with a total value of production of $8.05 million.

Cabbage production in 2021 totaled 1.83 million cwt with a total value of production of $19.2 million.

There were 6,500 acres of cucumbers harvested in 2021 with a total value of production of $18.0 million.

Utilized production of pumpkins in 2021 totaled 263,600 cwt from 2,400 harvested acres with a total value of $5.09 million.
