Wisconsin’s Fall Fieldwork Nears Completion

Widespread rainfall slowed remaining fieldwork, but improved soil moisture and benefited fall planted crops. Field activities when conditions allowed included harvest of corn for grain, fall tillage and spreading manure. The Crop Progress and Condition report released by the USDA shares details on how things are looking.

Corn for grain was 89 percent harvested. That’s well ahead of last year and the 5-year average. Moisture content of corn harvested for grain was 16 percent.

Eighty-nine percent of the winter wheat crop has emerged, 1 day ahead of last year and 9 days ahead of average. Winter wheat condition was rated 74 percent good to excellent, up 2 percentage points from last week. Fall tillage was 73 percent complete.
