Wisconsin Youth Discover Archery with DNR Support

The Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources (DNR) and archery community work together to promote youth archery programs. These efforts provide young people with safe, educational, and fun opportunities to learn archery and bowhunting skills.

Two key programs help introduce youth to archery: the National Archery in the Schools Program (NASP) and Scholastic 3-D Archery (S3DA). The DNR also supports summer camps and events that teach the fundamentals of archery and encourage lifelong participation.

NASP focuses on international-style target archery as part of in-school instruction for students in grades 4-12. More than 300 schools and 800 trained instructors across Wisconsin use the standardized NASP system, including the Genesis bow, to teach archery safely and effectively.

S3DA helps youth develop skills in 3D, indoor target, and outdoor target archery while promoting safe and ethical bowhunting practices. Students can choose their equipment, including compound, bare, or recurve bows. This program serves as a natural progression from elementary through high school and into collegiate archery.

The Wisconsin State NASP Tournament will take place March 28-29 at the Woodside Sports Dome in Wisconsin Dells. Spectators can watch students from across the state demonstrate their skills and dedication to the sport.

Beyond schools, the Wisconsin DNR partners with organizations and shooting ranges to offer public programs for youth and adults. These opportunities include single-day workshops and overnight bowhunting camps. Visit the Wisconsin DNR Events page to find a program near you.
