Wisconsin Shorter On Hay This Year

All hay stored on Wisconsin farms as of May 1 was estimated at 390,000 tons, down 30 percent from May 1, 2023. This is according to the latest USDA, National Agricultural Statistics Service – Crop Production
report.

All hay stored on U.S. farms as of May 1 totaled 21 million tons, up 47 percent from May 1, 2023.

Record high May 1 hay stock levels were estimated in Montana, Oklahoma, and Utah. Record low hay stocks were estimated in Rhode Island.

In the most recent crop progress and condition report from NASS, a few Wisconsin farmers reported cutting hay in the past week. All hay conditions remained rated at 74 percent good to excellent statewide.
