Wisconsin Sheep Flock Grows 2%

Wisconsin’s sheep flock grew by 2% compared to last year. Breeding stock was 2% higher at 65,000 head with the number of market sheep and lambs 7% higher, totaling 15,000. The national inventory was up only slightly with the breeding flock growing from 3.67 million to 3.68 million. Cash lambs were steady to $15/cwt lower last week with the net cutout value 74 cents lower at $456.40. The estimated weekly harvest was 36,000 sheep and lambs, 1,000 fewer than the previous week and 2,000 more than a year ago. Shorn lambs brought $150-$185/cwt with some light lambs selling to $200/cwt.
