Wisconsin Rancher Guides National Beef Promotion Efforts

Steve Springer of Linden, Wisconsin has been reappointed to the Cattlemen’s Beef Promotion & Research Board (CBB). He previously served on the national board from 2021 through 2023.

The CBB oversees the Beef Checkoff Program, which helps promote beef and fund research at the national level.

“Serving on the CBB again gives me a chance to promote our extraordinary product nationwide,” said Springer. “I’m excited to build relationships with other members and industry leaders.”

Springer owns and operates S Bar Ranch, a cow/calf operation in southern Wisconsin. He also works for Superior Livestock Auction. With more than 40 years in the cattle business, Springer brings deep experience and passion to his role.

He is a third-generation cattle producer who has served on the Wisconsin Cattlemen’s Association board. He’s also active with Farm Bureau and the National Cattlemen’s Beef Association.

“We’re pleased to have Steve back on the board,” said Ryan Moorhouse, 2025 CBB chair. “He’s a tireless advocate for beef and brings valuable experience.”

Springer’s return to the CBB follows a one-year break. Moorhouse said that gives him both knowledge and new perspective.

The CBB includes 99 members representing beef, dairy, veal producers, and beef importers from across the country. Board seats are based on cattle numbers in each state and beef import levels. Members are appointed by the Secretary of Agriculture.

Springer says serving on the board is a chance to make sure producers have a strong voice.

“If you’re not at the table promoting your product, you may be on the menu,” said Springer. “It’s up to us to share our story and keep beef front and center.”
