Wisconsin Milk Price Improves

The Wisconsin all milk price for April 2021 was $18.80 per hundredweight (cwt) according to the latest USDA, National Agricultural Statistics Service – Agricultural Prices report. This was $1.30 higher than last month’s price and $4.50 higher than last April’s price. $18.80 averages out to about $1.61 per gallon at the farm gate.

The U.S. all milk price for April was $18.40 per cwt, 40 cents lower than Wisconsin’s price but $1.00 higher than last month’s U.S. price. All of the 24 major milk producing states had a higher price when compared with March. South Dakota had the largest price increase, up $1.50 to $20.70 per cwt.

The Chicago Mercantile Exchange* (CME) 40‐pound block cheese price closed at $1.5300 per pound on May 28, while barrels were $1.5700 per pound. The CME butter price was $1.8100 per pound.

For the week ending May 22, 2021, the Agricultural Marketing Service* U.S. weekly 40‐pound block cheese price averaged $1.8153 per pound, and 500 pound barrels adjusted to 38 percent moisture averaged $1.8134 per pound. The U.S. butter price was $1.8203 per pound.
