There is an opportunity for Wisconsin meat processors to invest in their businesses — and potentially help strengthen the state’s livestock industry at the same time.
The Wisconsin Department of Agriculture, Trade and Consumer Protection (DATCP) is accepting applications for its Meat Processor Infrastructure Grant program through October 15, 2026. These are grants meant to help Wisconsin meat processors expand their capacity and improve efficiency. The money can also be used to make infrastructure improvements that could support the state’s livestock industry over the long term.
“This is the sixth time the Meat Processor Infrastructure Grants will be offered,” DATCP Secretary Randy Romanski said. “Since Governor Evers and the legislature created the program, meat processors have used the funds to increase capacity, update infrastructure, and improve efficiency.”
Up to $50,000 available
DATCP will be awarding grants of up to $50,000 for projects that can be completed within two years and will increase capacity or production.
The program is competitive, and processors who receive a grant must provide a 100% match of their specific grant amount. This means a processor receiving the maximum $50,000 grant would need to provide another $50,000 in matching funds.
Grant dollars can be used for expenses directly connected to the project, including:
- Engineering and architectural design
- Construction
- Food safety consultation
- Equipment purchases
- Equipment installation
- Other eligible operating expenses tied to the project
Who can apply?
The program is open to Wisconsin meat processing establishments licensed by either DATCP or the U.S. Department of Agriculture. Applicants must be involved in livestock and/or meat processing. Proposed projects should increase harvest capacity or production.
“Meat processors are encouraged to apply for this opportunity and use this program as another tool to reach their processing goals,” Romanski said.
The deadline is October 15, 2027. Learn more and find the grant application here.
