Wisconsin corn production is forecast at 538 million bushels, according to the latest USDA, National Agricultural Statistics Service.
The latest Crop Production Report shows that as of August 1, yields are expected to average 183 bushels per acre. This is up 7 bushels from last year. USDA estimates 3.75 million acres are planted and 2.94 million of those acres will be harvested for grain.
Meanwhile, soybean production is forecast at 112 million bushels. The yield is forecast at 53 bushels per acre, 2 bushels higher than 2023. USDA estimates 2.15 million acres are planted with 2.12 million acres expected to be harvested.
Winter wheat production is forecast at 15.2 million bushels, down 13 percent from the previous year. Yields are expected to average 80 bushels per acre, up 1 bushel from the July forecast and up 4 bushels from last year. An estimated 265,000 acres will be harvested.
Oat production for grain is forecast at 5.03 million bushels, up 10 percent from the previous year. The yield forecast is 67 bushels per acre, up 1 bushel from the July forecast and up 6 bushels from 2023. An estimated 75,000 acres will be harvested for grain.
Wisconsin hay yield for alfalfa and alfalfa mixtures is forecast at 2.48 million tons, with a total production of more than 3.10 tons, up 0.40 tons per acre from last year. The forecasted yield for other hay is 820,000 tons, up 62 percent from last year. The forecasted yield for other hay is expected to average 2 tons per acre, up 0.70 ton per acre from last year.
