The Whole Milk for Healthy Kids Act is awaiting President Trump’s signature.
Following the House of Representatives’ passage of the bill, Congressman Derrick Van Orden said, “It’s a straightforward, bipartisan solution that gets real, nutritious milk back into our schools and supports Wisconsin’s dairy farmers. I am grateful to my colleagues for carrying it across the finish line in the House.”
Wisconsin Farm Bureau Federation is applauding Congress’s action to restore the ability of schools to serve whole and 2% milk.
“For years, we’ve heard from parents, teachers and dietitians who want to see real, nutritious milk choices returned to school cafeterias,” says WFBF President Brad Olson. “This marks a major step forward for child nutrition and provides meaningful support for Wisconsin’s dairy farmers, who produce some of the highest-quality milk in the nation.”
WFBF says the Whole Milk for Healthy Kids Act reinforces the role of dairy in supporting child development, offering natural protein, essential vitamins and healthy fats. Restoring these options also helps strengthen demand for Wisconsin-produced milk at a time when dairy farmers continue to navigate volatile markets and rising costs.
“Allowing schools to once again serve whole milk gives students better choices and honors the hard work of farm families who take pride in producing safe, nutritious food,” Olson says.
