Wisconsin Beef Council Hiring Director of Communications and Outreach

The Wisconsin Beef Council (WBC), based in Verona, Wisc., is looking to hire a full-time Director of Communications and Outreach. Under the direction of the Executive Director, the successful candidate will perform a variety of tasks that support the marketing, communications and educational programs of the Council.

The roles and responsibilities of the Director of Communications and Outreach will include, but are not limited to: oversee communications activities for WBC, including producer newsletters and outreach efforts; lead media relations; regularly update the WBC website and social media properties; coordinate strategy to educate consumers and influencers about Wisconsin beef production and beef farmers; and promote beef advocacy opportunities to industry leaders.

To effectively handle the position, the individual needs a B.S. or B.A. degree and an agricultural background. In addition, the qualified applicant will possess excellent communication and organizational skills, be detail orientated and able to prioritize tasks, balance multiple priorities and meet deadlines. Proficiency in Microsoft Office and Adobe InDesign products is preferred.

The Wisconsin Beef Council is a farmer-led not-for-profit organization funded by the $1.00 per head Beef Checkoff assessment on all cattle sold in the state of Wisconsin. Half of the dollar remains in Wisconsin for local beef promotion, while the other half goes to the Cattlemen’s Beef Board. The purpose of the Council is to fund beef promotion, research and consumer education activities supporting Wisconsin’s $2.1 billion beef industry.  The WBC operates under the guidance of its Board of Directors. The Board is comprised of representatives from cattle related organizations from around the state.
