U.S. Rep. Tony Wied congratulates the newly confirmed Secretary of Transportation Sean Duffy on his appointment.
“As a member of the House Committee on Transportation & Infrastructure, I look forward to working with you and the Department of Transportation in the coming months to address the most pressing issues facing our nation’s transportation and infrastructure systems,” Wied wrote.
Duffy served as the U.S. representative for Wisconsin’s 7th congressional district from 2011 to 2019.
Wied says with Secretary Duffy, he hopes to address weight limits for logging trucks in the state, which he says have been negatively impacting the logging industry and rural communities in Wisconsin’s 8th congressional district.
“Currently, state weight limits for logging trucks exceed federal limits in all major timber-producing states, and this disparity forces drivers that are transporting raw forest products to utilize non-interstate roads, extending transit times while increasing accident risk, fuel consumption, and road damage,” he says.
Wied adds that logging is a vital industry supporting countless jobs across the country, especially in rural areas. He says allowing logging trucks to use interstate highways would reduce the risk of traffic accidents by lowering the chance of collisions at intersections and traffic lights on state and local roads.
