Forecasters estimate winter wheat production in Wisconsin at 15.6 million bushels, 11 percent below last year’s 17.5 million bushels.
The latest crop production report from USDA estimates total U.S. winter wheat production will be up 2 percent from 2023 at 1.28 billion bushels.
Based on conditions as of May 1, the state’s winter wheat yield is at 78 bushels per acre, two bushels above last year. Wisconsin winter wheat growers intend to harvest 200,000 acres for grain, down 13 percent from 2023.
Forecasters estimate the United States yield at 50.7 bushels per acre, up 0.1 bushels from last year’s average yield of 50.6 bushels per acre. USDA expects the grain or seed harvest to total 25.2 million acres, up 2 percent from last year.
