Farmers have access to incentives when purchasing propane-powered equipment for their operations. When severe weather strikes, those incentives double for farmers needing to replace equipment.
Sponsored by the Propane Education & Research Council, the Propane Farm Incentive Program is a research program. It provides a financial incentive of up to $5,000 toward new propane-powered farm equipment. In exchange, participants agree to share real-world performance data with PERC.
“When we have a natural disaster area, our industry steps up and doubles that farm incentive for those people who were impacted by that natural event,” says Director of Agriculture Business Development Mike Newland.
For example, farmers recovering from the devastating impact of the 2024 hurricane season qualify for incentives totaling up to $10,000 off the purchase of propane-powered farm equipment.
“We have a bunch of chicken barns in south Georgia and north Florida right now to the tune of hundreds of barns that are destroyed,” Newland says. “When they put heat back in, when they put water heating systems back in, power generation for backup power… those things are covered. It’s a tough situation. It’s really the least our industry can do to help those folks get back on their feet.”
Once the farmer purchases the unit and fills out the application and invoice online, the check comes in the mail from PERC. Learn more: https://propane.com/about/incentive-programs/propane-farm-incentive-program/
PERC does ask that you fill out a post-season survey in order to collect usage data on the propane-powered equipment. The council forwards the research to the manufacturers in order to improve the products.
“We’ve done this for flood areas, we’ve done it for wildfire areas… if there’s a natural disaster impacting agriculture… we take that under advisement,” he says. “To this point, we’ve not turned down any natural disaster areas.”
