We’re Done – Harvest Is In

As the weather gets stirred up in Wisconsin just before the Thanksgiving break, farmers in the state are breathing a sigh of relief that they’ve basically wrapped up the harvest!

According to the Wisconsin Ag Statistical Service, as of Sunday, corn for grain harvest was 92% complete, more than 4 weeks ahead of last year and 17 days ahead of the 5-year average. The moisture content of corn harvested for grain was reported at 17%.

Ninety-six percent of winter wheat was emerged, more than 4 weeks ahead of last year and 3 days ahead of the average. Winter wheat condition rated 84% good to excellent statewide, up 2 percentage points from last week.

Farmers haven’t wasted any of the moderate weather they’ve been presented though! 79% had already completed their fall field tillage. That figure is more than 4 weeks ahead of last year and more than a week ahead of average.

Hopefully that means Wisconsin farmers will truly be able to rest and enjoy the Thanksgiving.
