Week 54 Rolls

Professional Dairy Producers® (PDPW), announces the line-up of speakers for week 54 of The Dairy Signal™. Episodes this week feature leading experts on manure management and reducing methane production, as well as a panel of dairy producers to share expertise with calf feeding systems.

Kevin Erb, Director of the Conservation Professional Training Program for UW-Madison, Division of Extension, will share best practices for sustainable and profitable manure management and information on what to do in case of a manure spill. Dr. Frank Mitloehner, PhD, Professor and Air Quality Extension Specialist with the Department of Animal Science at UC Davis, will return to The Dairy Signal with a presentation on reducing methane production on dairy farms, including examples of how California dairy farmers are effectively reducing production by generating electricity.

A dairy producer panel of Yogi Brown, Sunburst Dairy, Rosario Ibarra, Grotegut Dairy Farm, Inc., and Heidi Fischer, Fischer-Clark Dairy Farm, LLC, will share their experiences and learnings with calf pasteurizer feeding systems.

Developed by fellow dairy farmers from the PDPW Board of Directors, The Dairy Signal is a weekly series of free educational episodes offering insights and resources for fellow dairy farmers and other food system professionals throughout the value chain. The episodes air live from 12:00-1:00 PM CT each Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday; recorded sessions are available later in the day.

Each live session offers attendees the opportunity to engage in open Q&A with the speakers through the interactive platform.

Tuesday, April 20

Topic: Proper manure management is important to help protect the environment and increase farm profitability. Hear about best practices for managing manure and key steps to take if a manure spill occurs. Episode presenter includes:

Wednesday, April 21

Topic: California passed a law requiring dairy farms to cut methane production by 40% by 2030. Learn how that state’s farmers have already reduced methane production by 25%. Episode presenter includes:

Thursday, April 22

Topic: Learn from a producer panel about their experiences in switching to a calf pasteurizer feeding system and how the new system fits into their operation. Episode presenters include:
