The University of Wisconsin-Platteville Collegiate Crops Team won first place overall at the Regional Crops Contest in Brookings, South Dakota. Team members Anna Hagemann and Jack Lichte placed first and third, respectively.

Additional team members included Allie Bizosky, Anna Koehler, and Sydney Rider. The team was coached by Dawn Lee, manager of Pioneer Greenhouse and Gardens and lecturer in the School of Agriculture; Rich Crow, assistant professor of soil and crop science; and Dr. Roger Higgs, professor emeritus.

The Regional Collegiate Crops Judging Contest tests students in plant and seed identification, commercial grain grading, and seed analysis. The team will now prepare for two National Collegiate Crops Judging Competitions: the American Royal Kansas City Collegiate Crops Contest, held at the National Grain Center in Kansas City, Missouri, and the Chicago Collegiate Crops Contest, held at Loyola University’s Water Tower Campus in Chicago, Illinois.

These opportunities are made possible by funding from the Doug and Jean Buhler Undergraduate Travel Impact Grant and donations to the UW-Platteville Foundation – Soils and Crops Teams Endowment Fund.
