Winter wheat production in Wisconsin is forecast at 15.6 million bushels, 81% above last year’s 8.63 million bushels according to the latest USDA, National Agricultural Statistics Service – Crop Production report. The forecast is at it’s highest point since 2016, when production totaled nearly 20 million bushels.
Based on conditions as of June 1, the State’s winter wheat yield is forecast at 71.0 bushels per acre, up 1.0 bushel from the May 1 forecast and up 2.0 bushels per acre from last year. Wisconsin winter wheat growers intend to harvest 220,000 acres for grain, up 76% from 2020.
Winter wheat production across the United States is forecast at 1.31 billion bushels, up 2% from the May 1 forecast and up 12% from 2020. As of June 1, the United States yield is forecast at 53.2 bushels per acre, up 1.1 bushels from last month and up 2.3 bushels from last year’s average yield of 50.9 bushels per acre. Kansas leads the nation in production with a forecasted production of 358.8 million bushels for this year.
