It’s hatching season at the Wisconsin State Game Farm. From April through July, thousands of pheasant chicks arrive.
This year, about 230,000 ring-necked pheasant chicks will hatch at the facility near Poynette.
Many of these chicks are raised right at the game farm. Others go to conservation clubs through the DNR’s Day-old Chick Program.
Later, these birds will be released across the state for hunting season. Every pheasant stocked on public hunting lands in Wisconsin comes from this game farm. That includes birds released by the DNR and its partners.
In 2024 alone, the DNR will stocked around 75,000 pheasants on over 80 public properties.
