Spring Flush Was Noticeable

The seasonal “spring flush” was definitely in play for Wisconsin’s dairy production.

The latest update from the Wisconsin Ag Statistical Services shows milk production in Wisconsin during April 2021 totaled 2.64 billion pounds, up 5% from the previous April.

The average number of milk cows during April, at 1.27 million head, was up 7,000 from last month and 14,000 more than April 2020.  Monthly production per cow averaged 2,070 pounds, up 70 pounds from last April.

There were six of the 23 major dairy producing states that saw a decline in milk production during April.
