Another warm, dry week with limited rainfall allowed for row crop harvest progress to remain well ahead of average. The latest crop progress report from the National Agricultural Statistics Service also says the weather has led to declines in wheat and pasture conditions as well as soil moisture ratings.
The carrot and cranberry harvests continued. Other field activities included spreading manure, fall tillage, planting cover crops, and seeding winter wheat.
Topsoil moisture condition rated 31 percent very short, 42 percent short, and 27 percent adequate. Subsoil moisture condition rated 23 percent very short, 40 percent short, and 37 percent adequate.
Nearly all the corn crop was mature at 97 percent. Corn for grain was 65 percent harvested, 15 days ahead of last year and the 5-year average. Moisture content of corn harvested for grain was 17 percent.
Soybean harvest was nearly complete at 96 percent, nearly 4 weeks ahead of last year and average.
Winter wheat planting was almost finished at 96 percent.
Seventy-four percent of the winter wheat crop has emerged, three days ahead of last year and five days ahead of average. Winter wheat condition was rated 66 percent good to excellent, down 9 percentage points from last week.
