Senator Marklein discusses importance of agriculture ahead of joint finance meeting

Thursday was the beginning of the back-and-forth discussion focused on the state’s budget. Wisconsin Senator Howard Marklein, co-chair of the Joint Finance committee, made it clear in opening press conference remarks that he’s ready to remove plenty of items from the budget and take things “Back to Basics”.

I spoke with Senator Marklein following the press conference, and he stresses that agriculture will maintain a priority position throughout the budget discussions.

Senator Marklein and co-chair Representative Mark Born both stressed in the press conference that their goal for the budget is to be “Reasonable, Responsible and Realistic.” The committee will be meeting again next Thursday, May 13th to continue budget deliberations.
