Senate Passes Whole Milk For Healthy Kids Act

Edge Dairy Farmer Cooperative celebrates the unanimous passage of the Whole Milk for Healthy Kids Act (S. 222) in the U.S. Senate.

The bill expands the milk and beverage options available to schools. This is including whole milk and 2% options, both of which are rich in nutrients that children need to grow and develop.

“We fully support the passage of this legislation in the Senate because it represents a crucial action for farmers,” Heidi Fischer, president of Edge board, said. “More importantly, it is a significant step in providing school children with access to wholesome, nutritious milk every day.”

The Whole Milk for Healthy Kids Act is a step closer to becoming law. Next, the bill moves to the U.S. House, where action is needed to pass the legislation so it can be sent to President Trump’s desk to sign into law.
