Agricultural groups, including the American Farm Bureau Federation, have tagged labor as the No. 1 issue facing farmers in 2025. Agriculture relies heavily on guest workers. How is the Trump administration’s plan for deportation going to play out for farmers?
Wisconsin Farm Bureau’s Director of National Affairs Tyler Wenzlaff explains that the U.S. can have the best of both worlds when it comes to a secure border and a guest worker program that makes sense for the farm economy.
“It’s going to be a very difficult conversation, but I think the border crisis has highlighted how important it is,” Wenzlaff says “It’s not that we can’t have a secure border but also have ag labor. So those issues are not connected in any way.”
