Lamb sales in June increased 11.3% in dollars and 2.4% in pounds. Lamb is the only major red meat protein with increased production compared to last year so the uptick in demand is welcomed. So far lamb and mutton production are outpacing 2024 by 2.6%.

Market lambs were steady last week with some markets calling them $5/cwt higher. The lamb cutout value was $475.40 last Friday compared to $468.07 the previous week, another indication demand is higher.

It is estimated that 35,000 sheep and lambs were harvested last week, 3,000 more than the previous week and 1,000 more than last year. New crop lambs brought $150-$217/cwt. Light lambs brought up to $250/cwt.
