Back in 2012, a farm parody video called “I’m Farming and I Grow It” took the internet by storm. The agricultural twist on LMFAO’s hit song “I’m Sexy and I Know It” made the Peterson Farm Bros of Kansas viral sensations.

Brothers Greg, Kendall, and Nathan Peterson have since produced more than 35 parody music videos, along with “day in the life” content that shows the real ups and downs of farming. The goal is to connect consumers with the realities of agriculture.

Greg remembers how different life was when they first started.

“In fact, we were teenagers, I think I was maybe 20, but Nathan and Kendall were teenagers,” he says. “Now we’re kind of in that dad jokes type of vibe, we’re just having fun as dads, and we include our kids in our videos some, and yeah, life has changed a lot, both on the farm and in the family for sure.”

The family has grown, but so has the farm itself, from 1,000 acres in 2012 to around 3,000 acres today, plus custom farming another 1,000. The Petersons also raise cattle, with Kendall managing the livestock, Nathan overseeing crops, and Greg leading their social media efforts. Their dad still serves as the farm’s overseer.

The online success has had a lasting impact on the family’s ability to farm together.

“Honestly, I’m not sure if we would all be back on the farm in the capacity we are if it wasn’t for the videos providing supplemental income, everything we’re doing along with that,” Greg says. “So, it’s actually been a really good fit to try to take a farm from supporting one family to four.”

Brothers Greg and Kendall say social media efforts have taken them to some of the most rural corners of the country.

“I’ve been to all 50 states twice, so there aren’t too many corners that I haven’t been to,” Greg says. “If I’m in a rural area, it feels like I’m at home in Kansas… the ag community, it stays the same.”

The brothers say one of the most memorable parts of their travels is meeting kids who are inspired by their work.

“When you hear ‘our kids watch a music video before bedtime’ or ‘they want to be a farmer when they grow up,’ that’s pretty memorable,” Kendall says.

Now, more than a decade later, the Peterson Farm Bros are still making agriculture relatable, mixing humor, music, and farm life into content that resonates with both farmers and consumers alike. Fans can find the Peterson Farm Bros’ videos on YouTube and across social media platforms.
