Manuel Peña has recently become the Regional Dairy Educator for Sheboygan, Fond du Lac, Dodge, and Ozaukee Counties. Originally from Duitama, Colombia, located three hours north of Bogotá, he brings a diverse background to his new role.
Peña earned a bachelor’s degree in Animal Science from Universidad Nacional de Colombia. During his final semesters, he worked for a national breeding association. After graduation, he completed internships at NC State University, focusing on dairy management, and at the University of Florida, where he specialized in forage and nutrition. His work at UF connected him with a professor from Clemson University, who later became his advisor for his master’s and PhD studies. His research has centered on ruminal nutrition and forage management, crucial areas for the dairy industry.
Peña is looking forward to giving back to the community, help as much as possible with their issues as much as to learn from their success and work together with other specialists.
In his free time, he enjoys outdoor activities and sports but also listening to music, reading and writing and even though he is not a great player he enjoy chess a lot.
