Pass on Your Hunting Knowledge to the Next Generation

The Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources (DNR) is looking for volunteers to help others enjoy safe and ethical hunting. Opportunities are available for experienced hunters to share their skills, enthusiasm, and knowledge with novices of all ages.

Become a Mentor

If you prefer one-on-one mentoring, consider guiding a new hunter. The Mentored Hunting Law allows novices to hunt within arm’s reach of a qualified mentor before completing a Hunter Education course.

Teach a Class

Join the Learn to Hunt program as an instructor. These courses combine classroom learning with field experience and a mentored hunt. Local groups host many of these programs, but you can also lead an educational hunt outside of the regular season.

Hunter Education instructors teach injury prevention, lifesaving actions, and responsible hunting practices.

Share Outdoor Skills

If you enjoy teaching a variety of skills, consider leading an Outdoor Skills Workshop. These sessions cover firearm safety, shooting basics, deer processing, and wild game cooking.

Support Youth Hunts

Special youth hunts for wild turkey, white-tailed deer, and waterfowl provide valuable hands-on experience. These events take place outside the regular hunting season and are open to residents and non-residents ages 15 and younger.
