Pandemic And Weather Challenges Shaping Wisconsin Fruit

Pandemic related challenges like supply chain disruptions, high input costs, and the availability of fertilizer are not the only challenges Wisconsin fruit growers are facing this year.

Amaya Atucha, a fruit crop production specialist for UW-Extension and an Assistant Professor of Horticulture at UW-Madison, says that despite these challenges, the outlook is positive for Wisconsin fruit production.

Atucha predicts that although production was down last year, we will see an increase in apple yields and flower production in 2022. She also anticipates that grape and strawberry production will improve this year following a mild winter.
