October Egg Production Up

Wisconsin egg production was up 9 percent in October from September. But it’s down 5 percent from last year.

This is according to the USDA National Agricultural Statistics Service’s chicken and egg report, which pegged egg production in October at 181 million eggs. Meanwhile, U.S. egg production totaled 9.61 billion during October, up 1 percent from last year.

The average number of all layers on hand during October was 7.11 million, up 4 percent from September but down 9 percent from last year. Eggs per 100 layers for October were 2,546, up 4 percent from both September and last October.

The national average number of layers during October totaled 390 million, up 1 percent from last year. October egg production per 100 layers was 2,465 eggs, up slightly from October 2020. Total layers in the U.S. on Nov. 1 totaled 392 million, up 1 percent from last year.
