Newly-Formed Wisconsin Pork Group Gets Rolling

There’s a new agricultural organization in Wisconsin. The Southwest Wisconsin Pork Producers is a group that was recently started with the goal “to promote pork and educate and collaborate with producers, consumers, business owners, and youth to provide greater support and awareness for southwest Wisconsin’s diverse pork industry.” The group includes members from Iowa, Grant, and Lafayette Counties.

According to Morgan Worek, the SWPP’s inaugural President, this group got its start after she saw the disconnect between consumers and hog farmers. She says that her family has deep agricultural roots and a good understanding of how the supply chain works but even they didn’t fully understand how complicated modern pork production is. If somebody within ag has a tough time understanding, how would the average consumer being able to grasp it and appreciate it? And so, this new group was born.

Worek is hoping to put a large emphasis on community-engagement and says that the group’s first-ever event is right around the corner. Details of the event can be found below:

What: Pork Chop Sandwiches, Brats, & Pork Bundle Drive-Thru Sale

When: Friday, October 30, 2020 at 3 PM

Where: The Festival Grounds Park in Darlington (near the Piggly Wiggly and Casey’s)
