Meat Plant Celebrates 1 Year

Nordik Meats, Inc. is celebrating a year of business after opening during the height of the pandemic to meet a demand for meat processors. The Viroqua-area processor still sees a need for its services even though the backlog has reduced some.

Ross Williams, general manager of Nordik Meats, reflects on the past year as being chaotic. Last fall and spring were packed. COVID-19 caused issues with employees. Nordik Meats struggled with finding enough cutters, like every other meat processor, Williams says.

As a federal plant, Nordik Meats sees customers from Iowa and Minnesota in addition to Wisconsin. The company processes between 30 and 40 head of livestock per week. Williams says they want to have healthy growth, including adding retail to their services in the future.

Nordik Meats celebrated its one year anniversary earlier this month. Williams says he couldn’t have been happier with the turnout.
