Meat Industry Caucus Remains Active

The Wisconsin Meat Industry Caucus has been active, trying to bring attention to the value the meat industry brings to the state.

Kevin Ladwig, member of the Meat Industry Caucus and with Johnsonville Sausage, says that since the start of the pandemic, pressure has been placed on small and large processing facilities. The Meat Industry Caucus brings light to this pressure, and focuses on obtaining grant dollars for processors across the state.

These grants will be used to increase capacity with new equipment and to hire additional state meat inspectors. Ladwig says this funding will help processing facilities of any size, and aims to reduce the backlog in the supply chain.

Ladwig says the growing industry needs talent in many areas, and students with an interest in the meat processing industry are encouraged to reach out to their local colleges for information on how to get involved.
