While June pork exports were lower year-over-year, shipments through the first half of the year remained ahead of the record value pace of 2023. And key market, Korea posted a big month, according to data released by USDA and compiled by the U.S. Meat Export Federation.
“Korea continues to perform on the pork side, 20% growth year-on-year for the month of June on
volume, 30% growth on value and the year to date, numbers through six months at 135,000 tons, 33%
growth through June,” says USMEF President and CEO Dan Halstrom. “And on the value side, 38% growth at $460 million. So Korea, without a doubt, is really one of the markets, in addition to Mexico, that’s really driving the ship so far this year.”
Other top performers for U.S. pork in June included Central America, the Caribbean, and Canada. January-June pork exports reached 1.52 million mt, 3 percent above the first half of 2023, while export value increased 5 percent to $4.26 billion.
