Know Before You Show

World Pork Expo brought a large crowd and is only the beginning of pork producers summer!

Jeff Morris, Territory Sales Manager at Ralco and Wisconsin Pork Association Board Director, says attitudes and conversations have been great at World Pork Expo after the event had been cancelled for two years due to African Swine Fever and COVID-19. This event means a lot since he has gone every year, except one!

The pork industry is a huge family and Morris says it’s, “A large business, but a small community of people.” Morris has made many connections within the industry showing at over 20 shows last year. Morris says, “If there’s a show, we’ll be at it!”

With county fairs coming up Morris says, “The work begins at home.” Whether that’s maintaining the pig’s nutrition or keeping them well hydrated. “Check those water lines,” Morris says, “I know I see a lot of people that don’t think about direct sun on water hoses or water lines – pigs don’t like boiling hot water.” 100 days leading up to the show should be where the work is done and Morris says, “The county fair needs to be your vacation.” Up until then, it’s all hands on deck.

The World Pork Expo is a highlight for Jeff Morris and he says, “I encourage everyone when we have this again next year, come out and see what the pork industry is all about.”
