Current high school juniors can now apply for the next Wisconsin Agriculture Youth Council. The Wisconsin Department of Agriculture, Trade and Consumer Protection (DATCP) will accept applications until March 31, 2025.
“Farmers and agriculture have been the backbone of our state for generations,” said Gov. Evers. “We must prepare new generations of farmers, producers, and leaders to keep this industry strong. With 2025 as the Year of the Kid in Wisconsin, I encourage students to join the Wisconsin Agriculture Youth Council and help build our state’s future.”
The council meets virtually each month during the school year. Members listen to presentations, engage in discussions, and also connect with agriculture professionals. Current juniors who will be seniors during the 2025-2026 school year are encouraged to apply.
“I am proud that the Wisconsin Agriculture Youth Council will begin its sixth year this fall,” said DATCP Secretary Randy Romanski. “This council offers young people passionate about agriculture a chance to connect with DATCP staff as well as industry leaders.”
DATCP seeks 15 members, including at least one from each of the nine council districts. The remaining seats will be at-large members.
“Being part of the council has expanded my knowledge and interest in agricultural policy,” said Makayla Staudinger of De Pere. “This experience has helped me explore my career options. I encourage any senior interested in agriculture to apply.”
The council highlights agricultural careers, shares resources for farmers, provides insight into policy development, and also increases networking opportunities. Members serve a one-year term.
“Council members provide valuable perspectives on Wisconsin agriculture to me and the DATCP team,” added Romanski.
New in 2025, the application process is now electronic. Applicants must submit a brief essay as well as a one-minute video about their agricultural involvement and future plans.
“The council has helped me learn about Wisconsin agriculture, DATCP, and myself,” said Jordan Berg of Neillsville. “I highly recommend applying to anyone interested in agriculture. There is something for everyone.”
