As farmers get ready for their busy season, so are the implement dealers and service technicians.
Ryan O’Flanigan is the store manager at the Sloan Implement in Monroe. He jokes that they get a few weeks of rest in between the spring and fall busy seasons, but there is never really downtime. He feels good about how prepared they are for the harvest.
“Our technicians are trying to get our equipment ready for the field so it can be sold, rented, whatnot, and then of course they’re always working on customers’ equipment as well,” O’Flanigan says. “The parts department is always trying to get things restocked… so we have all the parts available for anything the farmer will need come fall.”
He adds that they’re over the supply chain issues of the past few years, and are able to keep the lot full of options and the parts in-stock.
When it comes to what farmers are looking for, O’Flanigan says farmers are looking at more technology that can make them more efficient in the field, but used machinery is king.
“Lately here, we’ve seen an uptick in used equipment purchases because we do have fantastic interest rates on used equipment right now,” he explains. He adds that hobby farmers keep the small equipment — sometimes antiques — moving as well.
