Hall Of Breeds Coming To The Wisconsin Sheep & Wool Festival

Visitors to the Wisconsin Sheep & Wool Festival will have the opportunity to explore the remarkable diversity of sheep breeds from around the world in the Festival’s popular Hall of Breeds. The exhibit will be open throughout the weekend of September 11–13, 2026, at the Jefferson County Fair Park.

The Hall of Breeds brings together sheep producers from across the region who proudly display their animals and share their knowledge with festival guests. From fine-wool breeds known for producing luxurious fibers to hardy meat breeds and versatile dual-purpose sheep, the exhibit offers an up-close look at the animals that make the sheep and wool industry so dynamic.

Breeds represented in the Hall of Breeds include Suffolk, Shetland, Finn, Gotland, Coopworth, Katahdin, Valais Blacknose, Soay, and Ouessant, along with Brenton Dwarf sheep and others. Together, they illustrate the extraordinary range of size, appearance, fleece type, and purpose found within modern sheep breeds.

What To Expect

Festival attendees can meet the shepherds who raise these breeds, learn about the characteristics that make each one unique, and discover how different sheep contribute to wool production, meat, milk, and sustainable agriculture. The exhibit is especially popular with families and newcomers to sheep, providing a welcoming space to ask questions and experience the animals firsthand.

“The Hall of Breeds is one of the best ways for visitors to understand the incredible variety within the sheep industry,” said festival organizers. “It gives people the chance to see breeds side by side and talk directly with the farmers who care for them every day.”

The Hall of Breeds also serves as an educational resource for fiber artists, handspinners, and knitters who want to learn more about the origins of the wool they use in their crafts. By seeing the animals and learning about their fleece characteristics, visitors gain a deeper appreciation for the connection between farm and fiber.

Held annually at Jefferson County Fair Park, the Wisconsin Sheep & Wool Festival is one of the largest events of its kind in the Midwest. In addition to the Hall of Breeds, the festival features sheep shows, an extensive vendor marketplace, educational workshops, fiber arts demonstrations, and family-friendly activities.
