With Wisconsin weather heating up, it’s time to get outside!
Lt. Martin Stone, with the DNR, says safety should be your priority when you’re on an ATV/UTV – especially with the upcoming Memorial Day weekend. Stone said, “Demand and the use has increased exponentially (for ATV’s/UTV’s) over the past couple of years, especially this last summer.”
Stone said, “In the past 9-10 years we have seen a new recreation sport in Wisconsin – ATV/UTV road routes that involve about 35,000 legal road routes. Which is quite a bit more thank our estimates of 10,000”
Stone says you should keep 3 safety precautions in mind:
- Take an ATV safety class. It’s required for operators born after January 1 1988.
- Always wear safety belts/helmets.
- Never drink and drive.
No doubt trails will be busy Memorial weekend so check out all the information related to ATV and UTV usage on the Wisconsin DNR website.
