Friend of Towns Award Given to Senator Ballweg

Senator Joan Ballweg was recently awarded the 2023-24 Friend of the Towns Award by the Wisconsin Towns Association, recognizing her efforts supporting town interests.

“Senator Ballweg is a continual presence at regional meetings of town officials, bridging the gap between local leaders and Madison,” said Mike Koles, Executive Director of the Wisconsin
Towns Association. “Her eagerness to listen and research local issues is the foundation upon which Senator Ballweg leads and
the steady ground upon which she creates bi-partisan solutions to challenging issues.”

Senator Ballweg has been instrumental in protecting local decision-making. As well as ensuring that local leaders have the tools they need to effectively and efficiently govern. One of her numerous achievements during the last session was to pass a critical law change. The change will foster a better and more collaborative zoning environment throughout rural Wisconsin.

Friends of town government share a core belief that the best decisions occur in a decentralized system and closest to the people. They understand that local government leadership is the fuel for inventive solutions to public sector challenges. As well as the key to unlocking the power of democracy.

WTA President Jerry Derr added, “Senator Ballweg is exceptionally connected to her community and
constantly available to her constituents. She has shown tremendous leadership fighting for towns and town residents. She is deserving of recognition as a Friend of the Towns”
