Free Tree Seedlings for Wisconsin Fourth Graders

The Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources (DNR) is now accepting orders for free tree seedlings in celebration of Arbor Day. Since 1984, DNR nurseries have provided over two million free seedlings to Wisconsin students.

Every fourth-grade student in Wisconsin is eligible to receive a free tree seedling from DNR nurseries. This initiative aims to complement Arbor Day celebrations, which take place on the last Friday in April. The seedlings help teach the importance of trees within our environment.

In spring 2024, the Reforestation Program distributed a record-breaking 49,371 seedlings to public, private, and homeschooled students. This marks the largest quantity of seedlings distributed since 2011.

The Wisconsin DNR’s Arbor Day program provides an environmental education opportunity to teach students about trees and their role in the ecosystem.
