Expanding Fertilizer Access for Wisconsin Growers

U.S. Senator Tammy Baldwin (D-WI) has announced that Wisconsin will receive over $3.5 million in federal funding aimed at strengthening fertilizer production to support Wisconsin’s agricultural community and boost farmers’ productivity and profitability.

“Wisconsin’s agricultural sector is crucial not only for feeding families and fueling our country but also for helping other farmers succeed,” said Senator Baldwin. “I’m proud to secure this funding to support our farmers and drive growth in Wisconsin’s agricultural economy.”

Betley Farms in Shawano County will use this funding to implement a Nutrient Concentration System that transforms manure waste into organic fertilizers. Once operational, the system is projected to produce nearly 40 million gallons of organic fertilizer annually and create nine new jobs, enhancing local agriculture and providing a sustainable fertilizer source. The funding is provided by the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s (USDA) Fertilizer Product Expansion Program (FPEP).

Senator Baldwin has been a strong advocate for expanding access to affordable fertilizer for American farmers. Last year, she introduced the bipartisan Fertilizer Research Act to investigate market conditions affecting fertilizer prices and directed the USDA to study competition and market trends to identify solutions for stabilizing costs for farmers.
