Educators of all grade levels are invited to experience agriculture this summer through two unique professional development programs. The experiences will take place in July and August. They will allow participants to earn continuing education hours, receive curriculum and experience the engaging lens of agriculture to engage students in science, social studies and other core subject areas.
“We are excited to showcase the incredible work of Wisconsin teachers, authors and farmers this summer,” said Wisconsin Agriculture in the Classroom Coordinator Beth Schaefer. “These experiences allow teachers to network with peers while exploring how the food and fiber that we all rely on every single day is grown, raised and processed.”
Growing Minds Conference
The Growing Minds Conference is a new two-day conference hosted by Wisconsin and Minnesota Agriculture in the Classroom programs. The conference will feature tours of Wisconsin and Minnesota agriculture. In addition teacher-led workshops and opportunities to network with educators from across the Midwest will also be featured. An exciting, diverse line-up of workshops and tours will engage participants with hands-on learning opportunities.
The conference kicks off on Monday, July 27, at Hamline University in St. Paul, and wraps-up on July 28. Registration is $100 and includes tour fees, educational resources and snacks and meals. Register now at MNAgMag.org/Growing-Minds.
Summer Book Tour
Board the bus for the Summer Book Tour on August 5 , hosted by award-winning Wisconsin author, Lisl Detlefsen. The book tour will make stops at Whittlesey Cranberry Farm and the Food + Farm Exploration Center. Furthermore, stops will allow participants to explore the places and the people who inspired Detlefsen’s books, “Time for Cranberries”, “Still There was Bread”, and “Right this Very Minute.”
